Chenoa Cares is a movement of people that care about each other and want to take action. We gather at periodic meetings, usually at Heartland Bank, to discuss the needs of the community. We then plan projects and special events to help meet those needs.
Chenoa Cares began with a worship service at the City Park on the Fourth of July in 2010. At that service, pastors from five Chenoa churches posed the question, "Can this town live again?" They declared a new era of cooperation, not only among the churches, but for all the people of Chenoa. They announced two meetings which they called the Community Improvement Forum, which is now known as Chenoa Cares.
At the Forum, over 40 people gathered to talk about the strengths of Chenoa. The resounding answer to this questions was, the people. The people are the valuable asset of Chenoa. This is a town full of people of compassion, skills, talents, and a desire to serve. It was decided that a service day was needed.
"Serve Your Neighbor Saturday" took place in November. Again, over 40 people gathered to simply serve. During the day, 18 different homes were served by five different work teams. The main task was leaf raking and removal, but many other small jobs were done. After the day of work, a wonderful meal was shared at Chenoa United Methodist Church.
Chenoa Cares was born, and continues to move forward. All the people of Chenoa are invited to be a part of this movement to care about each other.
